Technical Delivery Lead - AI, Automation & Custom Applications
Client DeliveryHouston, TX, USAFull time
About the role
Technical Delivery Lead: AI, Automation & Custom Applications
Location: Houston, TX (hybrid)
Employment type: Full-time
Compensation: $90,000–$105,000
BabyBots is a Houston based consultancy that builds automation, enterprise AI, data, and custom applications for mid-market and enterprise clients. We work across Microsoft Power Platform, Copilot Studio, Azure, and modern custom software stacks.
We're hiring a Technical Delivery Lead to run day-to-day delivery on a small set of client engagements, working directly with our founder. Much of our work is fixed-fee, so your calls on scope, design, and estimates directly affect both client results and project margin.
The role
You'll own the technical delivery of 3–4 client engagements at a time, from kickoff through production. You'll report to our founder, guide developers on those engagements, and serve as each client's day-to-day technical contact. Our founder will stay involved in major architecture and commercial decisions as you build toward more ownership.
This is not a traditional project management role. You'll help decide what gets built, how it gets built, and whether the right answer is low-code, custom software, an AI agent, or a mix.
You don't need to be our strongest developer. You do need the judgment to spot when something is overbuilt, fragile, risky, or simply the wrong approach.
What success looks like after 12 months
- You run engagements, with leadership involved only in major decisions.
- Clients treat you as their day-to-day technical contact.
- Developers get clearer direction and hit fewer unresolved blockers.
- Scope creep gets raised before it turns into unplanned work.
- Your projects stay on budget.
- AI-assisted development moves fast without lowering quality or security.
- You flag worthwhile new opportunities with existing clients.
What you'll own
- Delivery: Turn scope into clear plans, keep work moving from discovery through deployment, and make sure client commitments are realistic and met.
- Commercial health: Track budget, timeline, and scope. Help review estimates, spot overruns early, and flag change requests before they erode margin.
- Technical direction: Review implementation choices, challenge unnecessary complexity, and escalate major architecture decisions to senior leadership.
- AI-assisted engineering: Help the team use tools like Claude Code, Codex, and GitHub Copilot well. Judge whether generated code is secure, maintainable, tested, and ready for production.
- Client relationships: Lead status meetings and working sessions, explain technical tradeoffs clearly, and make sure clients know what they need to do to keep projects moving.
- Team leadership: Keep developers clear on priorities, break down large requirements, remove blockers, and support junior developers.
- Account growth: Notice related problems worth solving and bring them to leadership. You won't carry a sales quota or do cold outreach.
- Delivery practices: Follow our delivery standards and suggest improvements based on what you see on projects.
What we're looking for
You may be a senior developer, technical consultant, or Power Platform consultant who already cares whether the whole solution succeeds and is ready to own more of it.
Must-haves
- 5+ years across software development, technical consulting, solution architecture, or enterprise applications
- A track record of building or meaningfully contributing to production systems
- Comfort reading code and discussing APIs, databases, authentication, cloud deployment, CI/CD, testing, and security
- Direct experience working with clients or business stakeholders
- Experience leading a technical workstream or mentoring developers, with or without the formal title
- Experience contributing to estimates and balancing several priorities
Nice-to-haves
- Power Platform, Copilot Studio, Dataverse, Fabric, Power BI, Dynamics 365, or SharePoint
- Azure, Azure AI, Entra ID, Azure DevOps, or GitHub
- TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, Python, or .NET
- AI agents, RAG, MCP, model evaluation, or AI governance
- Setting standards or guardrails for AI-generated code
- Delivering fixed-fee consulting work
You don't need every item on the nice-to-have list. Strong judgment matters more than experience with any one tool.
Why BabyBots
- Direct founder access: You'll work closely with and learn from our founder, without layers of management.
- Real influence: You'll help shape how a small firm delivers AI, automation, and custom software as it grows.
- Production work: You'll build real systems for clients.
- Modern engineering: AI coding tools are part of how we deliver, with engineering judgment still in charge.
- Benefits: Health coverage, 401(k), life insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, paid time off
